Wake Forest is a medium-size university, so the class size should be smaller and you should get more personal attention. The campus is gorgeous, but it sits away from the town (which is nothing special). Like Texas, Wake Forest has Division I athletics, but you’re more likely to actually know the athletes and feel connected to everything that’s going on. Both campuses have a lot of school spirit, but we found everyone to be friendlier at Wake Forest. Wake Forest is nicknamed “Work Forest” because the university tends to grade harder than other schools, so students have to work harder there. From what we saw, Wake Forest students are more likely to live in the dorms/frats on campus, so the social life on campus is more likely to be better. (Texas students will have to move into frats or apartments after the first year, so they’ll be living all over the place.)

Check out the graduation rates for both schools — Wake Forest has a much higher retention and graduation rate (although that’s generally more true for smaller schools than larger ones). Wake Forest will offer fewer majors than UT, so if you want to study something like archeology or aeronautical engineering, you’re better off at Texas.

If you just look at academics you could end up an Atheist at a Bible thumping school or a Democrat at a conservative school or even just in a place that doesn’t have any decent Mexican food when Mexican is your favorite. If they’re similar in academics, look at other aspects. Look at clubs to see if there are things you’re interested. Look at pictures of the dorm. Don’t just go by academics because while your classes could be amazing, you could be miserable due to lack of connection with the student body or with the surrounding areas.
